Florida abuzz with federal grants for HIE, EHR initiatives

The University of Central Florida, University of South Florida and the Community Health Centers Alliance in St. Petersburg were selected by the Dept. of Health and Human Services to be regional extension centers to support HIEs and the statewide EHR system.

Maryland nonprofit awarded REC designation

The Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP), a Md. nonprofit organization, won a grant from the Dept. of Health and Human Services to become a regional extension center to assist with EHRs and HIEs in the state.

Conn. nonprofit gets grant for REC

EHealth Connecticut, the nonprofit under contract by the state to create a health information exchange, was awarded $5.7 million by the Dept. of Health and Human Services to establish an electronic medical records center.

PA health system to deploy EHR, HIE platform

Mercy Health System, serving Pennsylvania's Delaware Valley region, will implement NextGen's electronic health record system and health information exchange platform.

Texas hospital uses HIE platform to connect to local physicians

The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX, will implement Eclipsys' HealthXchange to connect its EHR to local physicians' EHRs. Medicity powers the HIE platform.

VA hospitals at various stages of EHR implementations

Spurred by federal incentives and various EHR champions in the state, Virginia hospitals are advancing their EHR implementation plans. Interoperability is seen as the key component to achieve EHR benefits.

Obama in Maine to tout health reform, governor calls IT critical

President Barack Obama delivered a stirring speech in support of his landmark health reform in Maine Thursday, touting new course that will "build on the system of private health insurance that we already have," making coverage "more secure and more affordable" for those who already have it, and allowing those who don't have coverage to "finally be able to get it."

Deloitte wins HHS contract to support state HIEs

The Dept. of Health and Human Services has awarded Deloitte Consulting a $5.6 million contract to assist states in developing their health information exchanges.

Perspective: Doylestown Hospital serves as a community HIE model

Doylestown Hospital in the Philadelphia area received the 2010 Microsoft Health Users Group (MS-HUG) Innovation Award for Best Use of HIE and Interoperability and was named a Stage 6 Hospital by HIMSS in early March. The 208-bed community-focused hospital, however, is not resting on its laurels.

HealthBridge to partner with Northeast Kentucky RHIO

With $21.4 million in federal and state grants, HealthBridge Tri-State Regional Extension Center will collaborate with the Northeast Kentucky Regional Health Informatoin Organization to help develop a statewide HIE.
