Before a national health information network can be fully realized, standards must be developed to facilitate integration, interoperability and connectivity among all electronic systems. Government and industry organizations, such as Health Level 7 and the Commission on Systemic Interoperability, are working to create standards and build the framework for the NHIN architecture.
